What's the difference between group, private, and semi-private lessons?
Group lessons have a maximum of 6 students per instructor — ideal for those who want to learn in a fun atmosphere at an affordable price. Private lessons are exclusively yours, with the instructor 100% focused on your progress, perfect for improving faster. Semi-private lessons are for two people at the same time — the ideal option for couples or friends who want to learn together with personalised attention.
I've surfed a few times before. Which lesson should I choose?
If you've had some experience but don't surf regularly, a group lesson works well. If you want to focus on specific technique — paddling, pop-up, reading waves — a private lesson will get you further in less time. Let us know your experience level when booking and we'll recommend the best fit.
What does a typical surf lesson at Gecko Surf School look like?
The lesson starts on the beach with around 20 minutes of theory: stance, ocean safety, paddling technique, and how to stand up. Then we head into the water for 90 minutes with your instructor by your side the whole time. At the end we give you feedback on what went well and what to work on next.
Can I give a surf lesson as a gift?
Yes. We have gift cards available for all lesson types—group, private, or semi-private. It's an original gift for birthdays, Valentine's Day, or any occasion. The recipient chooses the date that suits them best.
Do lessons take place every day? What's the schedule?
Lessons run every day, subject to ocean conditions. Schedules vary depending on the time of year and the tide—when you book you'll receive confirmation with the exact time. In case of unsuitable conditions, we reschedule at no additional cost.
How early should I arrive?
We recommend arriving 10 to 15 minutes before the lesson starts so you can get your equipment on calmly and not miss the theory part on land. The meeting point is at our school on the beach—we'll send you the exact location in the booking confirmation.
